Last Thanksgiving with Family (for awhile)

It really hasn't kicked in that this is the last Thanksgiving I will probably be home for in awhile. So far it is just like all the other Thanksgivings that came before it. If you know my family at all or have ever been around us, our method of communicating is usually to talk over each other until someone hears us. It can be kind of overwhelming (but funny) for people. I love it though. People always say why are you yelling at each other, but we always tell them that's just the way we talk. I don't think we know any other way. I am definitely going to miss that dynamic at family get togethers.

Last night was the big night at one of the local bars where I live, well the ONLY bar where I live. This is the night where everyone that comes back home for Thanksgiving meets up. Of course I was really pumped about going and being with everyone, but honestly it was a let down. I mean it was fun of course to be with my friends, but I am glad that it is the last time I will go there for a long time.

I am trying to be very productive today. So far I am doing pretty well. I have made copies of all the forms that I need to fill out either when I get to staging or before I leave. I am picking out luggage to take advantage of the sales. I think I am going to take a rolling duffel bag, backpacking bag, and regular backpack. That is what a volunteer that is in Guyana now told me was good, so I am going to follow that. I am also going to make my Christmas list of stuff I need to give to my family, and I set up an appointment to get my glasses and contacts. I'd say I am doing pretty well. It is so nice to have time during the day to get stuff done. I haven't had that in a while since I have been student teaching.

Also, I don't know what changed. I think it is because I have met a lot more people that are going with my group (which is awesome). The fear and worry I had in the beginning has ALMOST totally gone away, and now I am just completely excited for this new journey in my life. It is DEFINITELY the greatest thing I have ever done. I am also realllyyyy excited about working in the schools and with the children. I think this is due to the fact that working with Kindergarten students now, and I think I am pretty good at it. It is great to get so much exposure teaching reading and literacy now, because I am learning so much. My teacher is amazing and my students can already write full sentences. It blows my mind, and I definitely want to be as great as her one day. Way to go Longwood on giving me an awesome placement.

Well sorry for the book but I was feeling rather deep today. I'll write again soon.

From a town you've never heard of,

Leighton
